PROF. DR. SATOSHI HAMAGUCHI
From February 23-26, 2016, Prof. Dr. Satoshi Hamaguchi from the Center for Atomic and Molecular Technologies, Graduate School of Engineering, Osaka University, Japan, will be a guest of Prof. Dr. Uwe Czarnetzki at the Chair of Plasma and Atomic Physics. He will give a lecture on "Surface analyses of plasma-modified biomaterials" on Feb. 25, 2016 at 2:15 p.m. (room NABF05/694). Interested parties are cordially invited.

Dr. Simon Hübner "Plasmas in the Atmosphere".
Plasmas are natural phenomena that have always held a great fascination for people. Be it the dreaded lightning, mysterious auroras or the warming sun, Dr. Simon Hübner presented many interesting backgrounds and details in his public lecture "Plasmas in the Armosphere". After the lecture there was a lively discussion and many questions were asked.

Marc van der Schans
Marc van der Schans from the Department of Applied Physics, Elementary Processes in Gas discharges (EPG) at the TU Eindhoven (Netherlands) is visiting PhD student Patrick Böhm (Experimental Physics V) during the week of January 25-29, 2016. This week marks the end of a collaboration already started in 2015. The goal is to apply the electric field measurement technique, which is being further developed by Patrick Böhm as part of his dissertation at Ruhr-Universität, to a plasma bullet discharge, which is also being further developed and extensively analyzed by Marc van der Schans as part of his dissertation. Due to the positive outcome of the previous cooperation weeks, a corresponding setup will now also be set up at the TU Eindhoven.

Imagefilm des SFB-TR 87
The SFB-TR87 is concerned with research into the synthesis of nanostructured functional layers using high-performance plasmas. The goal is to find a knowledge-based approach that covers the whole chain from energy supply to plasma properties to material and to understand the dependencies in detail. The SFB-TR87 has now released its first image film to give more insight into how it works. Dr. Christian Maszl was involved in writing the script and explains his contribution to the SFB in the video.

Start of the lecture series Alles Plasma with Dr. Christian Maszl "Plasma to go".
The new lecture series "Alles Plasma!" started at the event center "BlueSquare" of the Ruhr-Universität Bochum. Moderated by Jun.-Prof. Jan Benedikt, researchers from the Research Department Plasma present current research to the interested public.
Dr. Christian Maszl started the series with his lecture "Plasma to go". In a humorous way, the audience was taken on a tour through the world of plasmas. In passing, people learned where we encounter plasmas more or less hidden in everyday life.

18TH WORKSHOP ON THE EXPLORATION OF LOW TEMPERATURE PLASMA PHYSICS
The WELTPP-18 was held at the old convent Rolduc in Kerkrade December 3rd/4th, 2015.
The aim of this workshop is to create a forum for young low temperature plasma scientists, that is graduate students and postdoctoral researchers, to meet, learn from each other, exchange knowledge, present results and establish new contacts.
The emphasis is on the presentation of the work of the people new in this field. The scientific program consisted of 17 contributed talks, encompassing the topics fundamental processes, magnetized discharges, surface interactions, plasma chemistry and diagnostics. From our department W. Breilmann, J. Golda and G. Willems were giving talks. Additionally, an invited evening lecture by G.J.M. Hagelaar (LAPLACE) was held and there was ample time for discussions during 2 poster sessions, where B. Biskup, A. Eitrich, K. Grosse, M. Mokhtar Hefny and P. Preissig presented their posters.

Prof. Remi Dussart & Philippe Lefaucheux
From December 8-11, 2015, Prof. Dr. Remi Dussart and his technician Philippe Lefaucheux from GREMI [Groupe de Recherches sur l'Energetique des Millieux Ionises], Université Orléans, France will join Dr. Volker Schulz-von der Gathen and Judith Golda at the Chair of Experimental Physics II. The two French colleagues will bring their latest microplasma sources, which will then be studied here with high temporal resolution after installation. Phase-resolved measurements of new metal-based microplasma arrays were made during the visit. The visit has been held as part of the PROCOPE exchange.
