RAPID workshop in Eindhoven
The workshop with the focus on "Process technology from Nano-Scale to Large-scale" and "Emerging concepts in diagnostics and modelling" of the EU programm RAPID was between April 11th and 13th, 2017 at the Eindhoven University of Technlogy.
In sum 15 contributions were presented of researchers of different fields, from PhD students to well-known professors. In between the sessions, discussions about different research topics and the lab tour helped the workshop to reach its successfulness.
The Bochum group with three participants from the Research Department Plasmas with Complex Interactions could welcome a former member of the group, Dr. Gina Oberbossel. She was one of the presenter at the workshop and visited the labs in Bochum previously to the workshop.

General meeting of the SFB-TR 87 in Raesfeld
On April 4th and 5th, 2017 the annual general meeting of the SFB-TR 87 took place in the castle of Raesfeld.
The focus was the objective of each project for the third funding phase. The general idea of the special research field was recovered in the presentations of the individual projects. Moreover, three new projects were introduced and two projects were integrated into one project for the next phase. Based on the fruitful discussions, the members left the meeting with the aim to write the proposal for the final funding phase 2018 - 2022.

Dr. Ondrej Cibulka and PhD student Martin Müller visited Prof. Jan Benedikt
Dr. Ondrej Cibulka and PhD student Martin Müller (see photograph with Kerstin Sgonina together with an atmospheric plasma source for nanoparticle generation) came in March from the Czech Academy of Sciences in Prague to visit the group Coupled Plasma-Solid State Systems of Prof. Jan Benedikt. Their stay was organized in Frame of DAAD exchange Program "Critical evaluation of optical gain in different types of Si nanocrystals for future CMOS technology". The fruitful cooperation resulted already in four peer-review articles. The reciprocal visit of Mrs. Sgonina and Prof. Benedikt in Prague is planed for April.

Agata Giardina
The research group applied microbiology of Prof. Julia Bandow welcomes M.Sc. Agata Giardina fo the Universitá di Padova from Italy. The intention of the collaboration is to intensify the knowledge about the impact of plasmas on biological systems. This fits perfectly to Agiata Giardina's PhD topic, the effect of new plasma sources on the model enzyme GAP-dehydrogenase. She visits the group for at least four months, from January 1st, 2017 until April 30th, 2017.

Prof. Dr. Jan Benedikt moves to Christian-Albrechts University Kiel
At April 1st, 2017 Jan Benedikt was appointed full professor for experimental plasma physics at Christian-Albrechts University Kiel. The research department will continue the collaboration with the group of Prof. Benedikt and will strenghten thereby the ties with CAU.
In 2004 Dr. Jan Benedikt joined RUB as a PostDoc in the research group reactive plasmas of Prof. von Keudell. He build up the experiments on mass spectrometry, µ-plasmas, and plasma medicine. In 2010 he was appointed a junior professorship for Coupled Plasma-Solid State Systems at the faculty for plasma physics and astronomy. During his time at RUB, he supervised six PhD thesis and numereous master and bachelor thesis.
The research department plasmas with complex interactions whishes Jan Benedikt all the best for his future and looks forward to many fruitful collaborations.

Dr. Molina
Dr. Ricardo Molina from the Institute of Advanced Chemistry of Catalonia (IQAC-CSIC) will give the seminar “Plasma polymerization in contact with liquids” on Wednesday, March, 29th, in Bochum. This lecture explores some routes to synthesize polymers in liquid environment by means of dielectric barrier discharges (DBD). The properties of the treated surfaces, e.g. surface energy, are addressed as well.
Since 2009, Dr. Molina works as Tenured Scientist at IQAC-CSIC in Barcelona, Spain. Being an expert in remote plasma treatments and DBD applications, his work is focused on plasma treatment of polymeric materials, plasma sterilization, plasma in liquids (elimination of contaminants in wastewater and polymerization) and plasma in agriculture (plasma activated water, seed germination, etc).
The seminar will take place on 29.03.17 at 10.00 in the lecture room ID 03/445 in the RUB. Please confirm attendance by sending an e-mail to
