ISPLASMA 2014
From March 2-6, 2014, Prof. Dr. Uwe Czarnetzki was at the 6th International Symposium on Advanced Plasma Science and its Applications for Nitrides and Nanomaterials (ISPLASMA 2014) / the 7th International Conference on Plasma-Nano Technology & Science (IC-PLANTS 2014) in Nagoya, Japan. He gave a talk on "Diagnostics of Low-Temperature Plasmas."
ISPlasma 2014 / IC-PLANTS 2014 is an international symposium that brings together about 1,000 scientists and engineers to discuss the latest research in advanced plasma science, its application to the processing and fabrication of nitrides and nanomaterials, and new systems for technology transfer. The symposium will address issues such as global warming, resource and energy problems that advanced plasma sciences and their application technologies can help solve.

To expand the horizon of plasma science in terms of its fundamentals and applications
Dates: September 30th (Tue) - October 2nd (Thu), 2014
Location: NB 7/173, Ruhr-Universität Bochum (building NB, level 7, room 173)
Organization RUB: Prof. Uwe Czarnetzki, Christian Schregel & Steffen Meier, Verena M. Scharf
Organization Osaka: Prof. Satoshi Hamaguchi
Program 2nd IS-NPCS at RUB (112.8 kB)
Structure of the Workshop
The structure of the workshop is going to be several pairings of 40 min and 20 min talks. Such design will accommodate talks that might overdraw their allotted time limit and would yet leave sufficient time to discuss some questions in detail. Specifically reserved talk slots are available to PhD students of each department, so as to enable as many RUB doctoral researches as possible to present their work. Afterwards, all talks may be once more presented in a separate poster session, giving a chance for specific inquires. The poster session on Friday will be followed by a round table discussion in order to exchange ideas and discuss further cooperation possibilities.
Each workshop day (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday) is scheduled to be concluded by a tour of laboratories. Such exprience will be very helpful and valuable to experimental science, seeing that practical details are rarely presented in talks. Lab tours are planned to visit all participating departments of RUB (EP5, EP2, TET & AEPT).
Reception dinner will be held at the NB building, where the experimental physics institutes are, on Tuesday evening.
Conference Dinner will be at Q-West on Wednesday.
The PhD students will spend the Thursday evening together at WissensNacht Ruhr where there will be some plasma projects presented by RUB scientists as well and afterward at Bermuda3eck.

TRAINING SCHOOL LJUBLJANA
The European Training School on "Chemistry initiated by electrical discharges with liquids" took place at Jožef Stefan Institute in Ljubljana, Slovenia, in the period February 2nd-6th, 2014. It was organized with the support of EU COST Action TD1208 "Electrical discharges with liquids for future applications". The school's main goal was to provide lectures on interdisciplinary physics-chemistry topics, which are relevant for the community of mainly plasma physicists dealing with plasmas inside the liquids or in contact with liquids (electrochemistry, photochemistry, ionic liquids with plasmas, chemical probes for plasma-induced radicals). Additionally, the state-of-the-art in the field of plasmas with liquids (interactions, diagnostics, applications) and plasma-initiated water chemistry have been provided. 45 mainly PhD-candidates working in this field in the laboratories involved in this COST Action participated at the school. The participants originated from 15 European countries and from Turkey. The lectures have been accompanied by a poster session, where the participants have presented their current work, by the tour through the laboratories of the Jožef Stefan Institute, and by many discussions with the lecturers. The training school enabled the participants to get overview of state-of-the-art level of knowledge and to establish new connections with other researchers working in this field. Moreover, the presentation slides will be available to all Cost Action members and four talks have been recorded and will be provided to the public as open access video lectures, promoting this topic and this COST Action in general.
