DR. GIANFRANCO BRUNETTI
Dr. Gianfranco Brunetti is again a guest at our chair at the Institute of Theoretical Physics IV / Chair of Space and Astrophysics (Prof. Dr. Reinhard Schlickeiser). The Alexander von Humboldt Foundation has awarded him a research prize, the Friedrich Wilhelm Bessel Research Award. It comes from the Instituto Nazionale die Astrofisica (INAF) in Bologna, Italy. Another stay next year is planned.
Dr. Brunetti will study the acceleration of charged particles in galaxies and galaxy clusters to predict their observational radiation signatures from radio wave to gamma-ray regions.

ONDREJ UND MARTIN MÜLLER
Dr. Ondrej E. Cibulka and PhD student Martin Müller from the Department of Thin Films and Nanostructures, Institute Physics of the Czech Academy of Sciences from Prague (Cz) have been guests of Jun.-Prof. Dr. Jan Benedikt since Feb. 29 within the DAAD exchange program. Dr. Cibulka will stay until 11.3., Martin Müller until 19.3. Their joint project is called "Atmospheric plasma-based generation of silicon nanocrystals for future energy":
The main goal of this project is to explore and demonstrate the potentials of non-equilibrium atmospheric plasmas for the generation of good quality silicon nanocrystals (Si-NCs, silicon quantum dots) and to investigate plasma-based options for passivation/modification of the Si-NCs surface.
On Thursday, March 10, 2016, Martin Müller will give a talk on "Growth of silicon nanowires in PECVD and their application in solar cells" at 4:15 pm (NB5 / seminar room). Interested guests are welcome to attend.

Marc van der Schans
Marc van der Schans from the Department of Applied Physics, Elementary Processes in Gas discharges (EPG) at the TU Eindhoven (Netherlands) is visiting PhD student Patrick Böhm (Experimental Physics V) during the week of January 25-29, 2016. This week marks the end of a collaboration already started in 2015. The goal is to apply the electric field measurement technique, which is being further developed by Patrick Böhm as part of his dissertation at Ruhr-Universität, to a plasma bullet discharge, which is also being further developed and extensively analyzed by Marc van der Schans as part of his dissertation. Due to the positive outcome of the previous cooperation weeks, a corresponding setup will now also be set up at the TU Eindhoven.
