TRAINING SCHOOL LJUBLJANA
The European Training School on "Chemistry initiated by electrical discharges with liquids" took place at Jožef Stefan Institute in Ljubljana, Slovenia, in the period February 2nd-6th, 2014. It was organized with the support of EU COST Action TD1208 "Electrical discharges with liquids for future applications". The school's main goal was to provide lectures on interdisciplinary physics-chemistry topics, which are relevant for the community of mainly plasma physicists dealing with plasmas inside the liquids or in contact with liquids (electrochemistry, photochemistry, ionic liquids with plasmas, chemical probes for plasma-induced radicals). Additionally, the state-of-the-art in the field of plasmas with liquids (interactions, diagnostics, applications) and plasma-initiated water chemistry have been provided. 45 mainly PhD-candidates working in this field in the laboratories involved in this COST Action participated at the school. The participants originated from 15 European countries and from Turkey. The lectures have been accompanied by a poster session, where the participants have presented their current work, by the tour through the laboratories of the Jožef Stefan Institute, and by many discussions with the lecturers. The training school enabled the participants to get overview of state-of-the-art level of knowledge and to establish new connections with other researchers working in this field. Moreover, the presentation slides will be available to all Cost Action members and four talks have been recorded and will be provided to the public as open access video lectures, promoting this topic and this COST Action in general.

1. MERCUR WINTER SCHOOL ON PLASMA ASTROPARTICLE PHYSICS
This winter school has been held at the Physikzentrum Bad Honnef from 12 to 17.01.2014. The organizers are Wolfgang Rhode, Reinhard Schlickeiser & Julia Tjus. This PhD school consists of block lectures and accompanying exercises, which is intended for further education in corresponding focus areas.
There will be lectures focusing on cosmic ray detection, interaction, and transport. Speakers in these areas include: Giancarlo Brunetti, Brian Lacki, Francis Halzen, Katharina Morik, Günter Sigl, and Eli Waxman.
Junior scientist event WELTPP-16
The 16th Workshop on the Exploration of Low Temperature Plasma Physics (WELTPP-16) will be held in November, 2013 at the old convent Rolduc in Kerkrade. This workshop is intended for active scientists working in the field of low temperature plasma physics.

Internationaler Workshops "Wind Bubbles, Astrospheres, Heliosphere: Environments and Cosmic Rays"
The interdisciplinary workshop will give a synoptic overview of the commonality and differences between astrospheres (or stellar wind bubbles) and the heliosphere, as well as the production and leakage of cosmic rays in such 'Spheres'.

KICK-OFF MEETING OF COST ACTION TD1208 “ELECTRICAL DISCHARGES WITH LIQUIDS FOR FUTURE APPLICATIONS”
Kick-off meeting of COST Action TD1208 “Electrical discharges with liquids for future applications”, has been held on Aril 11th, 2013 in Brussels. Plasmas generated in liquids and gas discharges interacting with liquids are today hot research. Plasma-liquid systems can produce strongly non-equilibrium environments and plasma-liquid interactions represent a great opportunity for developing novel chemistries and related technologies. This proposed Action aims bringing together a high level of experimental, simulation and theoretical expertise available around Europe and will support a coordinated effort that will improve our knowledge of basic processes responsible for initiating and sustaining discharges in/on liquids. Potential technological impact is foreseen in a range of application fields such as water and surface treatment, synthesis of nanoparticles, catalysis, formation of new organic compounds, and biochemistry. The chair of this action is Prof. Prof Frantisek Krcma from Brno University of Technology in Czech Republic and 23 countries are up to now the members of the Management Committee. Germany is represented by Jun.-Prof. Jan. Benedikt (Ruhr-Univeristy Bochum) and Dr. Stephan Reuter (INP, Greifswald).
HERAEUS-SEMINAR "PLASMA AND RADIATION ENVIRONMENT IN ASTROSPHERES AND IMPLICATIONS FOR THE HABITABILITY OF EXTRASOLAR PLANETS"
The 527. Wilhelm und Else Heraeus-Seminar "Plasma and Radiation Environment in Astrospheres and Implications for the Habitability of Extrasolar Planets", took place from March 10th-15th, 2013 in the "Physikzentrum" of the German Physical Society (DPG) in Bad Honnef.
About 60 participants from 8 nations were discussing the conditions for habitability that are defined by the astrospheres, magnetospheres, and atmospheres surrounding extrasolar planets, including the question how signatures of life, so-called biomarkers, could be observed. The workshop brought together established experts on the various topics, young scientists as well as graduate students, and contributed to activities that will go well beyond the seminar week. The latter was supplemented by a Mini-Workshop within the framework of the ongoing collaboration between the Heliophysics group of the Ruhr-Universität Bochum, the Astroparticle Physics group at the University of Kiel, and the Centre for Space Research at the North-West University, Potchefstroom Campus, South Africa.
