Japan - RUB Workshop
We are happy to announce the upcoming Japan - RUB Workshop between July 4th, 2018 and July 7th, 2018. Workshop of experts from the field of plasma from Japan and from the Ruhr-Universität Bochum are planned for an intesive exchange of knowledge. The plasma workshops will take place on July 4th, 2018 and July, 6th, 2018 including lab tours. Furthermore, a framework program from the RUB is allocated for the Japanese guests to learn more about science in Bochum and the Ruhr area in general.

Gyrokinetic Theory of Strongly Magnetized Plasmas
Between February 19th until February 23th as well as between March 12th and 16th, an intensive course concerning strongly magnetized plasmas will take place at the insitute for theoretical physics of Prof. Grauer. Dr. Daniel Told is going to hold lectures in the morning and exercises will be avaible in the afternoon. The lectures will take place in NB 6/99 and the exercises in NB 7/173.
Interested people are welcome to join!
Kick-Off Meeting CRC 1316
On February 5th and 6th the Kick-Off Meeting of the newly approved collaborative research centre, CRC 1316, took place at Beckmanns Hof in Bochum.
Nearly 40 scientists from the collaboration presented their research goals and started to discuss about scientific goals and collaborations between the different projects.
RUB PhD students at WELTPP 2017
At the end of November, the 20th WELTPP took place in the old convent Rolduc in Kerkrade, the Netherlands. The scientific program was made up of five oral and two poster sessions which covered various topics in the field of low temperature plasma physics with a good balance of theoretical and experimental works. The very interested audience -mostly young researchers - led to a lot of good questions after the talks and fruitful discussions during the poster sessions.
Besides the scientific part, the programm was rounded by good food and a guided tour through the old Abbey. For me it was a great pleasure to take part in this workhop and for next year I recommend it for every young researcher in this field.
Workshop "Plasma Theory"
A special workshop on plasma theory ranging from astrophysical topics to fusion science has been organized by Prof. Grauer from TPI. Special guests were Dr. Daniel Told from the IPP Helmholtz Group on Computational Plasma Physics and Dr. Moritz Püschel from the University of Texas/University of Wisconsin.
International School on Low Temperature Plasma Physics: Basics and Applications
The traditional summer school on low temperature plasma physics will go on in Octobre next year. The summer school takes place in Physikzentrum in Bad Honnef and is from Octobre 5th, 2018 until Octobre 10th, 2019. After the school, the master class will be from Octobre 10th, 2019 until Octobre 12th, 2019.
Participants are welcomed to sign in for registration until June 15th, 2019. Due to limitation in the number of rooms at the Physikzentrum, the attendance is limited.

International School on Plasma Physics 2018
The 21st International School on Low Temperature Plasma Physics started in Bad Honnef. The School is attended by 68 students from 14 nations. The success of hand-on workshop from the last summer school was repeated. This year, Volker Schulz-von der Gathen also prepared an intensive workshop, in which students could experience practical challenges in spectroscopy.
The scientific Chairmen were Olivier Guiatella and Anne Bourdon from CNRS/LPP in France.
At Friday, 11th October the Master Class with the title Electronegative plasmas took place with 31 participants.
International School on Plasma Physics 2017 started
The 21st International School on Low Temperature Plasma Physics started in Bad Honnef. The School is attended by 65 students from 16 nations. 22 teachers from all over the world talk about basics and forefront plasma physics during the 5 days of the Plasma School.
The scientific Chairmen are Olivier Guiatella and Anne Bourdon from CNRS/LPP in France.
At Friday, 12th October the Master Class with the title New approaches for plasma/surface interaction studies will take place.
RAPID workshop in Eindhoven
The workshop with the focus on "Process technology from Nano-Scale to Large-scale" and "Emerging concepts in diagnostics and modelling" of the EU programm RAPID was between April 11th and 13th, 2017 at the Eindhoven University of Technlogy.
In sum 15 contributions were presented of researchers of different fields, from PhD students to well-known professors. In between the sessions, discussions about different research topics and the lab tour helped the workshop to reach its successfulness.
The Bochum group with three participants from the Research Department Plasmas with Complex Interactions could welcome a former member of the group, Dr. Gina Oberbossel. She was one of the presenter at the workshop and visited the labs in Bochum previously to the workshop.
General meeting of the SFB-TR 87 in Raesfeld
On April 4th and 5th, 2017 the annual general meeting of the SFB-TR 87 took place in the castle of Raesfeld.
The focus was the objective of each project for the third funding phase. The general idea of the special research field was recovered in the presentations of the individual projects. Moreover, three new projects were introduced and two projects were integrated into one project for the next phase. Based on the fruitful discussions, the members left the meeting with the aim to write the proposal for the final funding phase 2018 - 2022.
