Dates: September 30th (Tue) - October 2nd (Thu), 2014
Location: NB 7/173, Ruhr-Universität Bochum (building NB, level 7, room 173)
Organization RUB: Prof. Uwe Czarnetzki, Christian Schregel & Steffen Meier, Verena M. Scharf
Organization Osaka: Prof. Satoshi Hamaguchi
Program 2nd IS-NPCS at RUB (112.8 kB)
Structure of the Workshop
The structure of the workshop is going to be several pairings of 40 min and 20 min talks. Such design will accommodate talks that might overdraw their allotted time limit and would yet leave sufficient time to discuss some questions in detail. Specifically reserved talk slots are available to PhD students of each department, so as to enable as many RUB doctoral researches as possible to present their work. Afterwards, all talks may be once more presented in a separate poster session, giving a chance for specific inquires. The poster session on Friday will be followed by a round table discussion in order to exchange ideas and discuss further cooperation possibilities.
Each workshop day (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday) is scheduled to be concluded by a tour of laboratories. Such exprience will be very helpful and valuable to experimental science, seeing that practical details are rarely presented in talks. Lab tours are planned to visit all participating departments of RUB (EP5, EP2, TET & AEPT).
Reception dinner will be held at the NB building, where the experimental physics institutes are, on Tuesday evening.
Conference Dinner will be at Q-West on Wednesday.
The PhD students will spend the Thursday evening together at WissensNacht Ruhr where there will be some plasma projects presented by RUB scientists as well and afterward at Bermuda3eck.

INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON PHENOMENA IN IONIZED GASES (ICPIG) 2013
The XXXI edition of the International Conference on Phenomena in Ionized Gases (ICPIG) is held in Spain for the first time after the first ICPIG that took place back in 1953 in Oxford (UK) 60 years ago. It takes place in Granada from July 14th-19th, 2013. The ICPIG, a tradicional International conference with a remarkably long history, is held every two years and covers nearly all aspects of phenomena in ionizad gases from fundamentals to applications. The ICPIG topics are grouped into four major sections (A. Fundamentals; B. Modeling, Simulation and Diagnostics; C. Plasma Sources and Discharge Regimes; D. Applications) with each major section structured into several sub-topics.
This prestigious conference has been the forum for discussion of nearly all fields in plasma science since 1953, from the fundamentals of the interaction of charged particles with molecules to plasma chemistry, surface treatment and thin film technology, plasma medicine, light sources, plasma assisted combustión, plasma material processing, atmospheric and stellar plasmas, environmental protection and pollution control, plasma aerodynamics, and non-thermal plasmas in fusion devices.
Dr. Teresa de los Arcos, Dr. Carles Corbella Roca, Simon Große-Kreul, and Dr. Ante Hecimovic represent the SFB-TR87 and the Research Department "Plasmas with Complex Interactions".

INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON METALLURGICAL COATINGS AND THIN FILMS (ICMCTF) 2013
The International Conference on Metallurgical Coatings and Thin Films (ICMCTF) is internationally recognized as the premier international conference focused on thin-film deposition, characterization, and advanced surface engineering. It brings together scientists, engineers, and technologists from academia, government laboratories, and industry, thereby merging cutting-edge research with real-world applications. The conference consistently draws more than 700 attendees each year within 32 oral technical sessions and a well-attended poster session.
2013, the conference took place from April 29 - May 3, 2013. Dr. Ante Hecimovic represented the Research Department "Plasmas with Complex Interactions" and gave an oral presentation entitled “The characteristic shape of emission profiles of plasma spokes in HiPIMS: the role of secondary electrons”. The presentation focused on the latest findings related to the plasma inhomogeneities observed in high power impulse magnetron sputtering (HiPIMS/HPPMS) discharge. Based on the experimental data and modelling of the discharge a model explaining the physical mechanism behind the plasma inhomogeneities has been presented.
