05.06.2013 - 4TH WORKSHOP ON RADIO FREQUENCY DISCHARGES, FRANCE 2013

The RF-Workshop took place in La Presqu’ile de Giens on the French Riviera, near the city of Toulon. from May 29th-31st, 2013. The village-club “La badine” hosted the technical sessions with about 45 participants. Prof. Dr. Uwe Czarnetzki and Dr. Volker-Schulz von der Gathen represented the Research Unit "Physics of Microplasmas" FOR1123 and the Research Department "Plasmas with Complex Interactions".
The 5th RF-Workshop will take place in Dublin in 2015.

HIPIMS

04.06.2013 - EMRS STRASSBOURG 2013

The Research Department Plasmas with Complex Interactions was represented in the E-MRS 2013 Spring meeting in Strasbourg (May 27-31, 2013) by Dr. Carles Corbella (Ion induced oxidation of aluminium during reactive magnetron sputtering) and Dr. Teresa de los Arcos (Target implantation and redeposition processes during HPPMS of aluminium). Both contributions were presented within the “protective Coatings and Thin Films’13” Symposium. The contribution of Dr. de los Arcos was presented in a special HiPIMS session supported by the COST Action MP 0804.

Microplasmas

03.06.2013 - 7TH INTERNATIONAL WORKSHOP ON MICROPLASMAS 2013

The 7th International Workshop on Microplasmas took place from from Monday, May 20th to Thursday, May 23rd, 2013 in the Fragrant Hill Hotel near Bejing, China. This workshop was the seventh in a series that started in Japan in 2003 and has since alternated between venues in Asia, the USA and Europe.
The intent of the workshop is to bring together researchers from around the world to report on recent progress in understanding and in controlling the properties of plasmas generated in confined geometries.
The Research Department "Plasmas with Complex Interactions" and thus the Research Unit "Physics of Microplasmas" FOR1123 was represented by Jan Benedikt, Marc Böke, Denis Eremin, Dirk Luggenhölscher, Daniel Schröder, Achim von Keudell, and Jörg Winter.

08.05.2013- INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON METALLURGICAL COATINGS AND THIN FILMS (ICMCTF) 2013

The International Conference on Metallurgical Coatings and Thin Films (ICMCTF) is internationally recognized as the premier international conference focused on thin-film deposition, characterization, and advanced surface engineering. It brings together scientists, engineers, and technologists from academia, government laboratories, and industry, thereby merging cutting-edge research with real-world applications. The conference consistently draws more than 700 attendees each year within 32 oral technical sessions and a well-attended poster session.
2013, the conference took place from April 29 - May 3, 2013. Dr. Ante Hecimovic represented the Research Department "Plasmas with Complex Interactions" and gave an oral presentation entitled “The characteristic shape of emission profiles of plasma spokes in HiPIMS: the role of secondary electrons”. The presentation focused on the latest findings related to the plasma inhomogeneities observed in high power impulse magnetron sputtering (HiPIMS/HPPMS) discharge. Based on the experimental data and modelling of the discharge a model explaining the physical mechanism behind the plasma inhomogeneities has been presented.

Plasma diagnostics

07.05.2013 - 10TH FRONTIERS IN LOW TEMPERATURE PLASMA DIAGNOSTICS (FLTPD)

The 10th Frontiers in Low Temperature Plasma Diagnostics was held from April 28th—May 2nd, 2013 at the Conference Centre Rolduc in Kerkrade, the Netherlands. PhD student Stefan Spiekermeier from the Research Unit "Physics of Microplasmas" FOR1123 participated in that conference.
The Frontiers in Low Temperature Plasma Diagnostics (FLTPD) brings together experts in the field of low temperature plasma diagnostics and create the possibility to share knowledge of these diagnostics with the new generation of scientists.
The 10th FLTPD is the continuation of a very successful biennial series that began in 1995 at Les Houches (France) and is organized by the Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) and the Dutch Institute for Fundamental Energy Research (DIFFER).
